Kingsland Grange School for Boys is an independent day school. It was founded in 1899 and celebrated its Centenary over the year 1999-2000. It occupies a beautiful 13 acre woodland site with extensive playing fields on the outskirts of Shrewsbury, close to the A5 and within easy reach of the town centre and all of the town facilities. It has a wonderful setting with its plateau fields, mixed woodland play area, a pond and a river in the lower grounds. As a whole the school offers an environment of beauty, safety and charm. A delightful traditional Prep School setting.
In January 2007 we announced a merger with Shrewsbury High School (GDST) to produce a new Prep and Pre-Prep school on the Kennedy Road (SHS) and Kingsland Grange sites. This exciting proposal is being planned for a completion date of mid 2008. When complete the new school will offer co-educational teaching in the Pre-Prep from Nursery to the age of 8 at Kennedy Road. At Kingsland Grange substantial investment in new buildings will result in a wonderful environment for boys (aged 8 to 13) and girls (aged 8 to 11) to be taught in single sex classes within a co-educational environment where music, drama and other activities will be participated in together.
This exciting project will provide a different option to the parents of Shropshire, whilst combining and maintaining the high standards and strengths for which both schools are renowned in the community.
Kingsland Grange operates, at present, as two departments. The Pre-Preparatory Department, called The Rocks, is for the 4 to 7 year olds (Reception, Year 1 and 2). The Rocks has its own purpose built building with all of the facilities one would expect for the teaching of this young age group. We accept the Nursery Vouchers for our Reception class.
The Senior Department has boys of ages 7+ to 13 years (Year 3 to 8). Both departments operate on the same extensive site but are independent of each other. The school operates on a Monday to Friday basis, however, there are sports fixtures and optional activities on Saturdays for boys in the Prep Department.
There is After School Care from 3.15 - 6.0 pm from Monday to Friday in term time.
We are neighbours of Shrewsbury School where, on average, 75% of our leavers attend school. Also locally is the Shrewsbury High School for Girls where the sisters of many of our boys attend. The High School also offers a nursery which our pre-4 year olds may attend.
Entry to the school is through interview and simple testing. We have mixed ability classes though the school has a very strong academic tradition as witnessed by the fine record of results shown by our leavers over many years. We believe in equal opportunity and racial equality which ensures that all of our boys are able to benefit from the full range of opportunities that single-sex education offers at Kingsland Grange School.
Although the majority of our leavers go on to Shrewsbury School we also succesfully prepare boys to enter other independent senior schools, for example Concord College, Ellesmere College and Wrekin College locally. Also our boys move on to Adam's Grammar School for Boys in Newport, Shropshire as well as local Maintained Senior Schools. We respond to the choice of the parents in preparing the boys for entrance examinations to many different schools.
