The school employs traditional teaching methods to small class sizes (average 14 pupils). The staff are well-qualified specialists dealing with a developing curriculum which encompasses the requirements of the National Curriculum and enables greater depth and breadth of knowledge to be imparted to the boys. Practical subjects are taught in well equipped departments.

Languages are taught from the age of 9 where Spanish and French are introduced. We are currently transferring our main emphasis from the learning of French as a foreign language to Spanish. Language learning includes the opportunity to visit France or Spain on extra-curricular activity trips. From age 10 Latin is taught. At present the senior boys start to study Spanish after their final examinations.

We have two Special Educational Needs teachers who are fully qualified to test and identify learning difficulties and provide a programme of help and guidance for each child. teaching boys with SEN requirements may be on an individual basis or in small groups.

The boys are actively encouraged to fulfill their potential both in and out of the classroom. Information and Communications Technology, Art, PE, Music, Drama and Design Technology are curriculum subjects taught to all age groups as part of their timetables.

The main sports are Soccer, Rugby, Cricket with Athletics, Swimming and Cross-country running and Tennis also featuring for all. Our coaching staff are highly experienced and dedicated to a 'Sport for All' philosophy.

The boys are encouraged to go out into the community to help or entertain the local people. The Rocks have a special affinity with The Millingtons Hospital Residential Home and visit the elderly residents to perform Christmas Carols and Harvest Festival songs. We support charities , for example the Samaritans and the NSPCC.

Many groups have benefited from the voluntary activities of the boys and staff alike. Each year sponsored events are put on to raise money for worthy causes. From cake sales to plain clothes days, from sponsored swims to Teddy Bears picnics. The object is to have fun while helping the needy.

Each November the whole school participates in a service of rememberance for all those citizens who gave their lives in wars on our behalf. The service takes place at school and we welcome the veterans from the British Legion and the Burma Star Association.

The school choir is occasionally invited to charity functions to sing for the patrons.
